A worker at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta, Ga. was found dead after being locked in the hotel's walk-in freezer for 13 hours. Foul play is not suspected, police said. The freezer had a door opening mechanism on the inside but it is not known if it was working.
On Tuesday, a woman (Carolyn Robinson) was found dead in the walk-in freezer of a popular Atlanta hotel after being trapped for 13 hours. This woman likely became trapped inside the freezer of the Westin Peachtree Plaza, one of the city's largest hotels, about 8 p.m. Monday, Atlanta Police Lt. Charles Hampton said.
Robinson was reported missing when she didn't return home after her shift.
There was evidence Robinson tried to get out, but Hampton didn't know if the mechanism to get out of the freezer was working. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating, Hampton said.
"She was a nice person. She got along with everybody. Everybody loved her," said co-worker Cecelia Edwards.
Below is a statement released by the hotel: "We are devastated by the tragic loss of our long-time associate and member of our Westin family. We are working closely with the authorities in their investigation, and we are providing whatever support that we can for her family. As this is an active police investigation, we are unable to provide further information at this time. Any inquiries should be directed to the Atlanta Police Department."
