One person has died after a heavy storm caused severe flooding in southern Portugal.
Authorities say a clean-up operation is under way after the storm in the Algarve region.

The floodwaters swept away cars and uprooted trees
Residents and workers have been shovelling thick mud from the streets and crews are pumping rainwater out of basements in Albufeira, the hardest-hit town.
Police say the body of an 80-year-old man has been recovered from a submerged car.

The storm struck on Sunday and swept away cars, uprooted trees and washed away roads.
Many stores were flooded by the rising water, with some premises seeing water reach the ceiling.
