Man (80-year-old) arrested for attempted murder of his wife

An 80-year-old man was arrested on Monday over suspicion of attempted murder of his 73-year-old wife after trying to strangle her to death.

Police said they received a call from a male relative of Kenjiro Ogawa at around 12:10 a.m. Monday, in which he reported that Ogawa had strangled his wife as reported by Fuji TV reported.

Police went to the apartment and found Ogawa’s wife lying unconscious in a Japanese-style room on the second floor of their house. She was taken to hospital where she remains in a coma.

Ogawa has admitted to attempting to kill his wife, who suffered from dementia, police said. He was quoted as saying he was worn out from looking after her.
