M5.2 quake strikes Kanto region; no tsunami danger

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 shook the Kanto region on Tuesday, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of damage.

The epicenter of the quake, which struck at 12:57 p.m., was 30 kms deep in eastern Chiba Prefecture. It registered an intensity of 4 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7. It registered a 3 and 2 in Tokyo’s 23 wards, shaking buildings in the capital but was not strong enough to dislodge items from shelves.
