14-year-old girl arrested for strangling grandfather to death

Police in Midori, Gunma Prefecture, said Wednesday they have arrested a 14-year-old girl on suspicion of strangling her 76-year-old grandfather to death.
According to police, the girl used an electrical appliance cord to strangle her grandfather at their home at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Sankei Shimbun reported that the girl called 110 and said she had killed someone. When police arrived at the house, they found the girl’s grandfather unconscious, with a cord tightly bound around his neck. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police quoted the girl as saying she killed her grandfather because they hadn’t been getting along recently. She said he had been reprimanding her about her attitude toward life.

Local media reported that the girl went to police last October and complained that her grandfather was berating her a lot.
