Three bodies were found in the ruins of an apartment in Yao, Osaka Prefecture, early Thursday after it was destroyed by a fire.
At 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, flames were seen coming from a wooden two-story apartment building, police and firefighters said. The fire quickly spread and destroyed the 240-square-meter building.
Police said the bodies of two men and another body whose sex was not identifiable were found in the room where the fire is believed to have started.
Police believe the bodies are those of the residents of the apartment, a couple in their 80s, and their second-eldest son who is in his 50s, as reported by Fuji TV.
Another man, who is the couple’s eldest son, was found in an adjoining room. He was taken to hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation and remained unconscious.
