Eight family members ( a woman and her seven children) lost their lives in a fire outbreak that occurred at 3am in Ohufu village, Ogboji community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, over the weekend.
Mr. Sylvanus Nwefuru (husband) to the deceased woman and one of their children (Ukamaka Nwefuru) were the only survivor in that family.
Sylvanus Nweferu (80-yr- old) while speaking to news men said that he heard a loud noise while deeply asleep noted that he woke up suddenly and saw his place of abode on fire.
Properties worth millions of naira and two thatched houses where the family members do sleep were lost to fire.
One of the survivors, Ukamaka Nwefuru revealed that her mother who rescued her and went into the fire to save another member of the family was caught by the inferno where she unfortunately lost her life.
Henry Eze, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ishielu local government area, called on security agents to investigate the cause of the inferno and solicited more cooperation among the people in the community to avert future incident.
