The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also known as Shi’ite, said on Friday that one of its members, Abbas Isiyaku, who was shot during the sect’s clash with the Army in Zaria, had died in Kaduna Prison.
The President, the Media Forum of the Islamic Movement, Ibrahim Musa, said in a statement that Isiyaku died in the prison early Friday morning.
He said there were 13 critically injured members of the sect in the prison, adding that many others were still being held incommunicado at various military barracks and other detention centres without access to medical care.
He said “This is inclusive of our leader, Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, and his wife.
“Many others died in similar circumstances. They were shot and denied access to medical care.”
But the Controller of the Kaduna Prisons, Abubakar Argungu, said of the 191 members of the IMN in the custody of the prison, none had died.
The controller was reacting to a statement by the Shi’ite sect that one of their members had died in the prison.
Argungu told our correspondent that there was no truth in the sect’s claim.
He said, “Of the 191 members of the Shi’ite sect in our custody, none of them died. Nobody died under our custody.”
