132 VVF Victims Get Free Surgery In Kano

About 132 Vistula Vaginal Failure, VVF, patients have benefited from free surgery and empowerment package by the Kano State government in conjunction with Fistula Foundation Nigeria and bankrolled by the United Nations Population Fund, UNPF.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 132 VVF victims, held at Kwalli VVF health facility in Municipal, Kano, the state deputy governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar expressed concern over the neglect and wide range of exclusion the victims confronted which has profound psychological impact on them.

The deputy governor stated government’s resolve to tackle the issue with double barrel approach, one of which he said was the preventive measures as clearly demonstrated in the provision of medical facilities, such as Kwankwasiyya Medical Outreach, Free Anti-natal and Post-natal Services, Sensitisation and Awareness Campaign as well as Modernisation of Traditional Birth Attendant Services.

Professor Abubakar disclosed that the second approach was that of curative measures in the event of unfortunate reoccurrence of the ailment.

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of Health, Zubaida Danmakka said the entire 132 victims have successfully benefitted from the free surgical and related medical services.

Zubaida described the empowerment training they received as self sustaining and a way to ginger to start businesses on their own.
