The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 24 to mark the Muslim festival of Eid-el Maulud. It equally declared Friday, December 25 and Monday, December 28 as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, respectively.
Minister of the Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd), made the declaration, yesterday, in two separate statements he issued in Abuja.
Signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Bassey Akpanyung, the government enjoined adherents of the two faiths to live in accordance with the tenets of their religions.
According to the statement, “the Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 24, 2015 as public holiday to mark Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
“Friday, December 25 and Monday, December 28, 2015 have also been declared as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day celebration.”
The minister enjoined Muslim and Christian faithful to use the unique occasion to pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
He also advised Nigerians to cooperate and join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari in his efforts to build a peaceful, united and virile nation.
