Abuja - The Kaduna State Government has donated more than 100 patrol vehicles to enable security agencies fight crime in the state.
State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, confirmed the development at Government House in Kaduna.
Nine security agencies will benefit from the 107 vehicles.
El-Rufai stressed that security was one of the most fundamental responsibilities of government.
“As the recent history of our country demonstrates, we live in challenging times. Non-state actors, propelled by twisted ideologies and perverse religious notions, are wreaking havoc across the world.
“Terrorists have taken too many lives and maimed too many souls in our country. Aside from the toll the terrorists have wreaked, a sundry assortment of robbers, cattle rustlers and other criminal gangs are menacing our communities," El-Rufai said.
He added that the state government has worked hard at forging a partnership with the security agencies in the state.
“Although they are all federal agencies, the reality on the ground is that state governments have to offer support to enhance the effectiveness of the security agencies.”
He said the partnership between Kaduna State and the security agencies resulted in the operations launched in the forest ranges that border the state.
“In collaboration with six other state governments, we have provided the funds for a push to flush out criminal elements from their forest redoubts” he added.
El-Rufai confirmed that the Federal Government has supported the operations by lending its considerable assets to the internal security operation.
“We cannot permit the calamity that will surely follow if those vast forest ranges slip out of the control of formal state authority. In our town and cities, we also cherish the visible and effective presence of the security forces and law enforcement agencies,” El-Rufai said.
