Expert recommends dairy products for healthy living

Nutrition expert, Prof. Ebenezer Ojefitimi has recommended dairy products as an integral component of healthy lifestyle.

Making the recommendation in Lagos at the official launch of ‘Peak Wazobia’ and a range of other low unit portion packs (LUPP) of Peak and Three Crowns brands evaporated and powdered milk to boost the fight against malnutrition in Nigeria, the Consultant and Professor of Community Health Nutrition, Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, LAUTECH, said dairy and its products have the potential to assist the country in achieving the number 4 and 5 Millennium Development Gaols MDGs.”

In his paper entitled: “The Role of Dairy in Promoting Nutrition: A Public Health Perspective”, and presented at the launch of the products as part of activities to mark the 60th Anniversary of Peak milk in Nigeria, he spoke extensively on the significant benefits of quality nutrition in preventing issues of malnutrition across all life stages and economic groups.

Ojefitimi who endorsed the products said they are nutritionally beneficial, environmentally sustainable, economically viable and culturally acceptable.

Speaking, Managing Director, Friesland Campina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, Rahul Colaco said the company is committed to ensuring better health for Nigerians through its quality healthy products.

Colaco said: “This pillar focuses on issues of malnutrition which is also a growing national concern. We believe that with daily consumption of milk through increased accessibility of quality dairy nutrition, consumers have the opportunity of getting up to 50 per cent of the nutrients that they require daily, which the body cannot make on its own.”

Also, Corporate Affairs Director, Ore Famurewa said the initiative is in line with “our mission to nourish Nigerians with quality dairy nutrition.” Similarly, she said this initiative is positioned to help manage the growing incidences of malnutrition across the country as these product offerings come at affordable prices and are same premium quality as the big size packs.
